About Dhampur

Dhampur city belongs to Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. The city is sited at a distance of 43 km from the district headquarters Bijnor. The city is 66 % of Muslims, 33 % of Hindus and the rest by Jains, Sikhs and Buddhist. Hindu, Urdu and dialect of modern Hindi is also spoken by the people here. The city is located very close to the banks of Khoh River and its canal. Dhampur is well-developed in terms of transportation, business and healthcare services.

Brief History of Dhampur

Till 18th century the city was ruled by the Mughals. At that time Rohillas who were settlers from Afghan began to rebel against the Mughals. In 1750, the Rohillas won the war against Mughals in Dhampur and established their rule in Dhampur. By 1805 the land was occupied by Pindaris. After that the land was ruled by Nawabs and finally by the English East India Company. The place was also closely associated with Daaku Sultana an Indian freedom fighter who made mass destruction to many British troops and stations.

Geography of Dhampur

Dhampur is elevated at a height of 286 meters which is about 938 feet above sea level. The city has coordinates at 29°18'28 North latitude and 78°30'31 East longitude. The city is bounded by Nehtaur Tehsil in the west, Budhanpur Seohara Tehsil in the South, Afzalgarh Tehsil in the East and Noorpur Tehsil in the South. The nearby villages from the city are the Gajupura, Jamalpur Aalam, Manpurshivpuri, Meemla and Sarakthal Sani. The nearby cities from Dhampur are Sherkot, Nagina, Nehtaur and Seohara. Many small ponds or taalab are present in the city like the Hakkem wali pond, Jole pond, Jheel Lake, Kharsawali pond, Peela wali pond, Shajani pond and Kodipura pond. Apart from these water bodies the Madhya Ganga canal branch and the Padhoi river flows through the city making the soil fertile for agriculture.

As per 2011 census the city has a total population of about 50,997. The density of population is about 15,132.4 inch per sq km in an area of 3.37 sq km.
